Spreading Happiness by Giving Back

05 December

“For it is in giving that we receive.” ~St. Francis of Assisi

It’s easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Preparing food, decorating the house, shopping and more. But at the heart of it all lies one constant: the spirit of giving. Whether it’s to friends or family or those in need, there’s no feeling like that of giving back to others.

photo-2-happiness-cycle-webThis is the idea – which we call the “Happiness Cycle” – that we’ve built our company on. We believe that the Happiness each of us puts into the world ripples outward, transmits Happiness to others, and changes lives. And it’s something we try to put into practice all year long – both globally and closer to home.

Recently, we’ve had the chance to partner with some wonderful, deserving organizations working to spread Happiness to homeless animals by giving them a second chance at a wonderful life.

Celebrity Catwalk “Paws in the City”

photo-3-paws-in-the-city-webFrom December 9 – 11 in New York City, you can grab your pet and enjoy a weekend filled with fur, fun, fashion and adoptable pets! Celebrity Catwalk presents “Paws in the City,” a star-studded event that raises funds and awareness for nonprofit animal rescue organizations working tirelessly to save lives and increase adoptions.

This year, Chews Happiness is proud to sponsor Celebrity Catwalk’s “Paws in the City.” The event will feature three days of celebrities, vendors, treats, cocktails, raffles, and daily fashion shows showcasing the latest in couture for pets and people, all to benefit animal rescue. Visit the Chew Happiness booth Friday through Sunday, and watch the Chews Happiness models strut the runway on Saturday. Tickets range from $55 – $65 and can be purchased on-line at Celebrity Catwalk events. Location: 350 3rd Avenue (at 26thStreet) in Manhattan.

PAWS Chicago

photo-4-paws-chicago-webSince its founding in 1997, Paws Chicago has helped reduce the euthanasia rate in the city from 42,571 per year to 8,682 last year. They have been able to accomplish this incredible achievement through pet rescue and adoption, spay/neuter programs, community engagement and a commitment to the No Kill Movement.

Like so many nonprofits, PAWS Chicago relies heavily on private contributions to fulfill their mission. So when we heard about their 15th Annual Fur Ball event, which was held on November 18th, we knew we wanted to be involved! We donated a handmade Bjadim Collar and Leash set to their silent auction to help them raise the funds necessary to continue their incredible work.photo-5-bjadim-collar-web

Rat Terrier ResQ

Dog Saves Yak Saves Dog

Dog Saves Yak Saves Dog

This breed-specific rescue is run entirely by a nationwide network of volunteers who saves unwanted Rat Terriers from shelters. These dogs, like so many pets in our nation’s shelter system, have been lost, abandoned or neglected through no fault of their own. They live with loving foster families who nurture them and get them ready to be placed in a forever home.photo-7-thala-black-scarf

In October of this year, Rat Terrier ResQ raffled a Thala Pocket Scarf, which alone raised over $1000 to benefit Rat Terrier ResQ dogs like Penny, who needed expensive heartworm treatment to live a long and healthy life. This partnership is a perfect example of the Happiness Cycle. Our Happiness Hugs dog sweaters, made with 100% cruelty-free yak down, help preserve the traditional lifestyles of yak herders in Bhutan. And in turn, those yak herders are now helping save dogs in the U.S. through this raffle!

We hope you’ll check out each of these deserving organizations and consider supporting them in the holiday season and beyond. And remember, when you select a Chews Happiness product, you become part of our Happiness Cycle, too! With each purchase, you help support our mission and allow us to give back to people, pets and the planet. Thank you!
