Chews Happiness high-quality artisan dog treat bakery was founded by two people with a shared longing and a dream. Tavor White and Meeta Gawande wanted to break out of the doldrums associated with their cutthroat corporate careers and dedicate themselves to doing good for the planet.
During a trip to Bhutan, they were inspired by the country’s commitment to Gross National Happiness, a concept that focuses less on making money and more on protecting the environment, people, and culture.
After returning to the U.S., Tavor and Meeta got married, moved to the Colorado mountains, and expanded their family to include a puppy named Bouncer. Like so many pet parents, they wanted the best for their little bundle of joy. However, they soon learned that finding safe, high-quality pet products with “good vibes” wasn’t easy. It was at this point that they got an idea.
Why not create great products like gourmet Barkaron French macaron dog treats that promote happiness for people, their pets and the planet?
And so, Chews Happiness was born!
OUR COMMITMENT TO ANIMALS
As part of our commitment to help make the world a better place, one percent of all proceeds from our gourmet handcrafted dog treats are donated to the Maya Foundation, an amazing organization run by Jamie, an American expat in Bhutan.
The Foundation operates with the key tenet that all beings, including animals, deserve care, love and a chance at life. The no-kill organization welcomes any and all species of animal in need from dogs and cats, horses and mules, pigs and goats and cattle, to snakes, birds, and mice.
The organization exists with the humble goal to help those less fortunate – animals and humans alike – through promoting and influencing more compassionate, comprehensive, and innovative health and veterinary care. The organization does not charge for any of its services.
The Maya Foundation’s main project is The Barnyard Bhutan Animal Rescue & Sanctuary located in Paro, Bhutan – a two-and-a-half-acre rescue center and shelter providing care for approximately 400 animals, including over 250 dogs and over 50 cats.
At Chews Happiness, we are inspired by the Foundation’s work and their message that second chances and life-saving opportunities do exist, for both human beings and animals.
